Hawthorn AFC will take the next step to Division 2 under the guidance of experienced senior coach, Glenn Taylor, after popular leader, Luke Mather, stepped down to spend more time with his young family.
Taylor is well-known in VAFA circles after commencing his coaching career with the Hawks in 1989, coaching at Whitefriars, St Kevin’s, Marcellin, Old Carey, La Trobe University and UHS-VU.
The Hawks went through the home and away season with just one loss to their name and with an average of 141.7 points per game, but fell agonisingly short when they went down to Glen Eira in the Division 3 Grand Final.
Read Hawthorn AFC’s announcement below:
“The Club is delighted to announce Glenn Taylor as Senior Coach for the 2017 season.
Glenn started his senior coaching career in 1989 with Hawthorn Districts (Hawthorn Amateur FC) and now returns to the Club where it all began. He is a VAFA stalwart, having coached at Whitefriars, Marcellin, SKOB, Old Carey, La Trobe Uni and Uni High while also having stints in the old South East Suburban Football League and Yarra Valley Football League.
Glenn brings with him over 29 years of Junior and Senior coaching experience, being involved in 8 Premierships over that time.
Glenn will be supported by Assistant Coach Ben Cameron, with more Assistants to be named shortly.
We welcome Glenn, his wife Carmen and sons Lloyd and Leyton to the club and look forward to a big 2017!”
