Old Trinity and Old Xaverians will officially face off in next weekend’s William Buck Premier Grand Final at Ikon Park after the Xavs defeated University Blues by 23 points in a rollercoaster match at Sportscover Arena.
Both sides had their time with the ascendancy as the Elsternwick wind played havoc and made the scoreboard end a goal frenzy throughout the match.
Jumping out to a 29-point lead at the first break after keeping the Blues scoreless, the Xavs’ defenders were made to work as the Blues piled on six unanswered in the second term.
Both sides kicked consecutive majors with the breeze in the second half but three goals against it in the fourth term gave the Xavs an unassailable lead.
Brendan Goss continued his outstanding finals form with a second consecutive bag of six goals, while Tyson Thomas powered through the midfield. Tom Quinn was sensational for the Blues on his way to five majors, while Jack Townley impressed.
Xavs will now clash with the T’s at 2:20pm on Sunday.
