Old Trinity retained top spot on the William Buck Premier ladder and booked the double chance with an 11-point victory over Old Xaverians at Toorak Park. A win for either side would have guaranteed a top-two position, but it was a burst at the start of the second quarter which gave the T’s the ascendancy and a buffer they were able to hold onto for the remainder of the match. Before going down with a knee injury, Seb Nicolosi starred during the second quarter with three goals in the first six minutes. Jack Osborn and Gabe Hamilton proved the T’s goal kicking depth with a couple each, while Andrew Kyriacopoulos shrugged as many tackles as he had disposals in a best-on-ground performance. Louis Tiernan and Lachlan Howe performed admirably for Xavs as teammates fell around them, with injuries to Ben Kennedy, John Shaw and Nick Serafini hindering their chances throughout the match.
University Blues pulled off a miracle win in the final moments of their Uni Derby against the Blacks, edging over the line by four points after trailing for the majority of the match and subsequently re-entering the top two. Down by as much as 27 points at half time, the Blues clawed their way back with seven goals to two in the second half. Clayton Hinkley, Tom McKenzie and Cam Williams kicked two goals each for the Blues and Will Cuningham starred from defence in a BOG performance. Josh Steadman and Hugh Curnow continued their outstanding form for the Blacks, who remain fourth and will face Old Xaverians in the first week of the finals.
St Kevin’s concluded their season on a high as they came from behind and defeated St Bernard’s by 29 points at TH King Oval. SKOB trailed by 10 points at the final break, but caught fire and registered 6.6 to the Snow Dogs’ 0.3 in a dominant final term. Steven Salopek did his best and fairest chances no harm with three goals for SKOB, while Michael Caven did the same at the other end for the Snow Dogs. SKOB conclude their first season back in William Buck Premier with eight wins as the Snow Dogs prepare to compete in Premier B in 2017.
De La Salle showcased the potential and talent on their list as they recorded an emphatic 117-point Round 18 victory against Old Carey at Waverly Oval. Leafing by just 11 points at the first break, De La held the Panthers to just one goal for the remainder of the match while piling on 16 of their own. Sam Picknett was the main recipient of a dominant engine room and kicked four goals alongside Leigh Harrison, Jake Williams and Tom Humphrey who nailed three each. Julian Rowe was the sole multiple goal kicker for the Panthers, who finish the season with one win.
Collegians and Old Melburnians are currently in progress.
