
Goals galore and gritty contests in Premier B Women’s opener
Round 1 of the Premier B Women’s competition was a rousing affair, featuring a mixed bag of dominant performances and closely contested battles. New game plans were on display, while
Box Hill North won their second in a row and for the year with a 14-point victory against North Brunswick at Elgar Park. Trailing by nine points with one quarter remaining, the Demons kicked four goals to one in the fourth to run away with the win. Daniel Penny kicked three for the Demons and Aloma Obialor starred in a best-on-ground display. Kenneth Zuidema was the Bulls’ best with three majors.
Mt Lilydale kept Chadstone to two goals in the first three quarters and ran out 129-point winners at home today. Three goals in the fourth showcased the Synners’ desire to fight until the end but they were outmatched as Max Hampton added four goals to the nine he kicked two weeks ago for the Rams. Daniel Dimitriou was named best for the second consecutive week, while David Fernandez was strong for the Synners.
In another Division 4 blowout, Point Cook proved far too strong for Masala, winning by 146 points at Saltwater Reserve. 11 goals to one in the fourth put the final nail in Masala’s Round 7 coffin, with William Dawson starring for the Bulldogs with eight majors. Point Cook remain one win behind the Warriors in second position.
Eley Park Sharks escaped with a 13-point win against Manningham Cobras at Whitehorse Reserve after trailing by two points at the half time break. Chris Brown chipped in with four goals for the Sharks, while Scott McPherson and Chris Jolly combined for eight for the Cobras.
