Emmaus St Leo’s has officially hit its straps in 2016 with their consecutive victory a 30-point win against Old Eltham Collegians at Bennettswood Sports Ground. Leading by 58 points at three quarter time, the Animals allowed six goals to two as the Turtles continued to fight as per every time they run out. Thomas Birkett kicked five alongside Chris Beluszar’s four for the Animals, while Brian Galvin (five) and Ben Gill replicated the feat for the Turtles. The Animals move to fifth on the ladder and the Turtles hold up the rest of the section in ninth.
Like the Animals, West Brunswick’s reign in Division 2 continued to develop this week with a 23-point win against MHSOB at Ransford Oval. Six goals to one in the third quarter proved the difference between the two sides as the Westies took advantage of the Unicorn’s lapse in concentration. Dylan Muscast kicked three and made it 11 in three weeks, while Chris Germon continued the outstanding form he’s showcased so far this year for the winning side. Kane Smith was the only multiple goal scorer for the Unicorns with two.
Last week’s bye round seemed to do the world of good for Bulleen Templestowe as they entered the top four on the back of a 20-point win against Richmond Central at Ted Ajani Reserve. Brodie McLaughlin was dominant for the Bullants, while Ricky Costanzo kicked three for the winless Snakes.
St John’s earnt initial premiership favouritism with a 32-point win against Preston Bullants in the top-of-the-table clash at Thomas Carroll Reserve. Five goals to one in the first term was too much of a difference for the Bullants to make up as Aaron Thornton nailed home eight majors for the JOCs. Andre Marcon was the best for the Bullants.
