Jason Bennett, Joey Pignataro & Paddy Grindlay cast a keen eye over Round 2 of the VAFA season:- UNI BLUES coach MATT SMITH talks us through his team’s rollercoaster ride
A father and son combination created their own history over the weekend, playing their first game of senior football together and helping Parkdale Vultures thirds claim their first win of the 2015 season.
Jason, 47, and Brad Austin, 17, achieved the rare feat due to Collegians’ senior Under 19’s team forfeiting prior to their match. In a bid to give game time to as many Under 19 players as possible, Vultures officials allowed a number of their young players to run out with their senior fraternity in the thirds.
The decision proved a masterstroke as the combined side went on to defeat St Mary’s Salesian by 26 points in dour conditions at Walter Galt Reserve.
Brad was electric in all facets of the game, kicking two goals in a best-on-ground performance. Jason was also named in the best players and kicked one goal on the back of a pinpoint precise pass from Brad’s left boot.
The Vultures will look to build on their first victory of the season when they clash with fifth-placed Williamstown CYMS at Fearon Reserve on Saturday morning.
