Old Scotch travelled to Albert Park to take on Old Melburnians in a game that appeared to be a foregone conclusion on paper. The margin never got over 10 points for the entire afternoon in a contest that had everything. The last quarter was played at a frenetic pace, with only two goals kicked for the entire quarter. With seconds remaining and OMs down by less than a kick, the ball was bombed into the OMs forward 50. At the top of the goal square Will Dowling marked and calmly slotted the matchwinner. Bob DeFegely may also end up on the highlights reel with a terrific goal that kept OMs in the hunt.Dowling kicked 2 and Hooper was best afield for the OMs. In another harrowing close loss, Scotch’s Bulte kicked 3 and Kalogirou was their best.
Old Trinity took on Beaumaris at Trinity Sports Fields with the Sharks keen to make amends for their draw last week. Beauy shot out of the blocks beautifully, kicking 7 goals to 2 in the first term to put the game out of Trinity’s reach. They continued to restrict goals from Trinity while piling on 7 goals in the third term and 6 in the last to annihilate Trinity by 20 goals. Beattie–Powell kicked 5 and Williams 3, with Pierce getting plenty of the footy to be the best player on the ground. For Trinity, Joyce kicked 4 with Hargreaves again proving he is a super player with another Best on Ground performance on an otherwise shocking day for Trinity.
Uni Blues made a good start to their contest with St.Bernards at Crawford Oval with 5 goals in the first term to 2. It was a start that had many thinking that Bernards could drop their second in a row until their excellent second term where they kicked 7 goals to 2. They didn’t let the momentum slip from that point on. Sibbald was outstanding kicking 6 while Vauge kicked 4 and was named best on ground. For Uni Blues, Nevett and Batarilo kicked 3 each with the latter being named best on ground for his side. Bernards made amends for their loss to the Old Xaverians last week and continue to be heavily fancied to win this year’s Premiership.
De La Salle found themselves back on the winners list this week with a 108-33 win against Uni Blacks at the mighty Waverley Park. De La took the early 2-goal lead and was never threatened from that point, kicking 5 goals in the second to shut out Blacks. Blacks managed to get 3 goals in the last term, but were nowhere near De La when the final siren blew. It has been a tough year for the other half of Melbourne University’s football team and they are teetering on the edge of relegation. For De La, Krelle was at his usual best booting 4 with McGaw booting 3 and Bisognin named best on ground. Mills kicked 2 for Uni and was their best player.
The Old Xaverians, coming off their impressive performance against St Bernards last week took on arch rivals St Kevins, its fair to say these two really dislike one and other, and it was evident with spot fires erupting all over the ground at different points. The Old Xavs let the scoreboard do the talking though and kicked 6 goals to 1 in the first and Skobs had no answer from there on. Vander Haar was enormous for the Xavs and Troiani, Cleeve and Morris were tremendous throughout with Cleeve kicking 4 majors, including an outstanding boundary line goal from 45 meters out into the win. St.Kevins will have a bit of work to do for their next game, but Slevison showed a bit as did Webb ,who toiled hard all day.
