Division 4 Rd 11 – Hampton, Collins kick bags in blowout wins

By Nick Armistead
Mt Lilydale booted 31 goals on their way to a 167-point massacre of Masala at WJ Turner Reserve this afternoon. While almost everybody had an impact on the scoreboard, it was Max Hampton’s 11 majors which garnered the most attention. The Rams remain seventh on the ladder, while the Tigers linger in 10th position.
Canterbury remains the team to beat in Division 4 this season, taking their unbeaten run to 10 games following their 50-point win against Point Cook at Saltwater Reserve. Walmsley dominated in a best-on-ground display, while Andrew Baker kicked six goals. The loss means the Bulldogs fall to third on the ladder with a significantly lower percentage (150.24) than Westbourne Grammarians (253.14) in second.
Westbourne Grammarians climb to second spot on the ladder following a 92-point thrashing of South Mornington at Citation Oval. Dale Collins remains the premier forward in Division 4 at the present time, kicking nine goals in his sides’ win.
Chadstone’s first win for the season last week was a celebration short-lived, after they were destroyed by Box Hill North to the tune of 130 points at Elgar Park. 49 scoring shots to 14 told the story, as the Synners failed to stem the constant barrage of goals. Lang was best afield for the Demons, while Desmond was a close second with six majors to his name.
Parkside kept their finals chances alive with a 50-point win against Manningham Cobras at Koonung Reserve. Shane Potter starred up forward, booting five of his sides’ 15 goals. The Red Devils still sit sixth on the ladder with a win/loss record of 5-5.
