Seven final quarter goals have seen Old Geelong come-from-behind to defeat St Mary’s Salesian by 29 points at Como Park. In a battle of three versus four on the Division One ladder, the Ogs gave up a 16-point quarter-time lead to trail at both half and three-quarter time, before they kicked 7.7 to the Saints’ 1.5 in the final term. Hugh McKay continued his dominant form, while Aaron Bird snagged four goals for the winners.
Bulleen Templestowe scored 43 times on their way to a 77-point crushing of Yarra Valley at Doncaster Reserve. A five goal to three opening quarter was the closest the Bushrangers would get all game as the Bullants kicked another 15 goals for the match, finishing with 20 goals and 23 behinds. Bill Tourogianis was named best-on-ground for the victorious Bullants squad.
Kew remains the only undefeated side in Division One after annihilating Ormond to the tune of 63 points at E.E. Gunn Reserve. The much-anticipated clash did not quite live up to expectation, as Robert Maibaum (four goals) and Andrew Brazzale (three) continued to light it up in front of the big sticks and put the game out of the Monders’ reach early on. The Bears now sit a game clear with a monstrous percentage of 200.48.
Old Mentonians broke a four-game losing streak and made light work of NOBS-St Pats at Turner Road Reserve, leading at every change and recording an 88-point win. Dustan Mills was the star of the show, booting six majors on his way to a best-on-ground performance. The win gives the Panthers an important percentage boost and sees them climb to sixth on the ladder, one position behind NOBS.
Prahran Assumption outlasted a stubborn Whitefriars unit to run out 29-point victors at Whitefriars College. With scores locked at 59-all at three-quarter time, the Two Blues kicked five majors to one in the last to overrun the courageous Friars. John Robbins kicked four as he continues to be a threat in the Two Blues forward line in 2015.
