VAFA Club Conference 2025
The VAFA Club Conference is taking place this Saturday 8th February at the Holmesglen Conference Centre in Chadstone. The VAFA Club Conference provides clubs with an opportunity to hear from
The William Buck Premier Coaches MVP Award was introduced in 2014 and the award immediately resonated with the VAFA community. Harry Tinney from Old Trinity won the inaugural award, with Tom Humphrey from De La Salle and Chris Waller from Old Xaverians filling out the places.
The good news is that the award is back in 2015 and with the re-introduction of the VAFA Coaches Association, the hope is that there will be similar awards in each of the senior levels of the VAFA in the future.
Each week the William Buck Premier coaches send through their votes on a 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 basis from their game on the weekend. Votes can be awarded to players from both sides with the voting emphasis to be on who was the most valuable player on the ground.
With both coaches voting in one match, the most a player can get is 10 votes (2 x 5).
After six rounds in William Buck Premier, leading the way is St Bernard’s key defender Simon Caven. Caven has polled 27 votes and leads from last year’s Woodrow Medallist Brendan Iezzi who has 25. Last year’s winner of the Premier Coaches MVP, Harry Tinney has again been prominent in the voting (currently 3rd with 24 votes) although he didn’t poll in Round 5 as he was knocked out early and he missed round 6.
Adam Bentick is also polling well, as is last year’s runner up in this away Tom Humphrey from De La Salle.
After six round 17 players have scored the perfect 10 votes from the two coaches, yet no player has managed two 10 vote games showing just how open this award is.
