So the season is closer than we thought in William Buck Premier. As the top four played the bottom four all bar De La Salle were able to upset the formline and the La Sallians were not without their chances at the Snakepit too.
In the end St Bernard’s proved too strong for De La and stretched the margin out to a 19 point win. The contest had been close all day, but De La, with more scoring shots, couldn’t convert their forward entries to scoreboard pressure. The win take St Bernard’s to the top of the ladder.
Old Trinity’s super start to the season is over as University Blacks broke down the fortress that is the Daley Oval to win by 18 points. Old Trinity star Harry Tinney was knocked out in the first term and despite a late T’s comeback, they couldn’t produce the Houdini like performance they managed in round 1 against St Bernard’s. Blacks’ better players all produced in a solid team performance, but despite the win they are still in the bottom two. Alistair Robbins booted four goals in the win.
Beaumaris earned their first win of the year in fine style with a gutsy 28 point triumph over Old Scotch at Camberwell. The Sharks took the game right up to the Cardinals who have now dropped two games on the trot and are out of the four. Beauy on the other hand move out of the bottom two.
Collegians outlasted University Blues to win a five point thriller at Uni Oval. It is the second five point loss in a row at home for Blues whilst Collegians are getting their season back on track with a second straight win.
Old Carey had their biggest ever win over Old Xaverians, defeating Xavs by 59 points. The final margin didn’t show Old Carey’s dominance though as they took their foot off the pedal in the last allowing Xavs to kick easy goals to add respect to the scoreboard. Old Carey got their lead out to 97 points before Xavs kicked six late goals. Proir to this run, Xavs were trailing 19 goals to 3. Jarrod Reid starred up forward for the Panthers with seven majors.
