Spectator numbers were again high around VAFA grounds as it was great to have blazing sunshine back for Round 4 action in Division 4.
After a slow start that saw the visitors Chadstone lead at quarter time, Parkside responded to record their first win in the VAFA since their re-admission. The final margin was a stunning 123 points as the Red Devils kicked 8, 7 and 7 goals in each of the second, third and fourth quarters to leave Chadstone on the foot of the ladder. Potter was the star for the home side as he booted eight goals.
Point Cook won the match up of the day against North Brunswick by 38 points to keep their winning start to the season alive. The loss was the Bulls’ first of their campaign and unfortunately came on their own turf as the Bulldogs demonstrated they are one of the form sides of Division 4 with the win.
Canterbury though might be the team to beat as the Cobras thumped Mt Lilydale by 113 points on the edge of the Yarra Valley. The Cobras were relentless throughout the day and Scott Fitzgerald was the beneficiary with 12 glorious goals.
Westbourne Grammarians might have a thing or two to say about the order of things in Division 4 as they thrashed South Mornington by 167 in the section’s biggest margin of 2015 to date. The Tigers were never in the contest as they were held goalless for three quarters. Dale Collins was the a main avenue to the goal for the Warriors as he ended the day with seven majors.
Manningham Cobras blitzed Masala in the opening half before eventually running away with the game in the final term to win by 118 points. Masala fought valiantly in the third term but were not match for the Cobras who slammed on a further seven goals in the final quarter. Chris Jolly ended the day with five goals for the home side in a win that levels the Cobra’s season at 2-2.
Status of the season has Canterbury on top from Point Cook as both sides are undefeated after four, whilst Point Cook and South Mornington are yet to get a win.
