There is one name that stands out at St Kevins OB, the pre-eminent figure that embodies what the entire Club stands for and this week he will play his 200th game.
On Saturday, SKOB Captain Anthony ‘Plugger’ Lynch will run out for the 200th time and with that become a life member of the club he loves. For people who know Plugger it’s not surprising that he has shown the commitment required to reach the milestone and when asked about his guiding philosophies in terms of footy, it’s easy to see why he has been able to achieve such a feat.
“For me as a player, it’s always about giving great commitment to my footy and footy club,” he said.
“From training and playing to recovery to social events, I’ve always felt that the more you give to footy and the footy club the more you get in return and this couldn’t be more true as I reflect on my career.”
Plugger began his SKOB career while still at school in 2003 playing in the U19’s. He was captain of the college First XVIII, with leadership stitched into every fibre of his football existence.
He says that football has been his life over the past decade and that almost nothing else compares with his love and devotion of the club.
“SKOB has provided me with the most amazing mentors, friendships and opportunities. As a self-confessed footy nut, I could not have imagined a better place to spend my senior career playing footy, the quality of the people is what stands out when I think or talk about the club.”
Leadership and responsibility follow him wherever he goes. He is admired by his teammates, which is a trait that all leaders need to have. Whenever a teammate is in need, they know that Plugger will have their back. He’s one of those players that opposition players hate to play against but respect immensely.
The club he leads currently has six teams and in 2015 all six teams are undefeated meaning St Kevin’s OB is 18/18.
“Our club has never been in a stronger position off field, our facilities now are the equal to any in the comp and the strength off field will only continue to assist our on field performance”.
“I’m really comfortable with where we are heading on field and believe that we have developed a playing list over the last 3-4 years with strong support and the influx of young talent from our school program will provide the platform for a sustained period of success.”
This Saturday, a massive crowd will be there to cheer on a club legend, life member and inspirational captain for the 200th time.
