Big V coaches confirmed for Bendigo clashes
The VAFA are delighted to announce that LUKE MAHONEY & PAUL CARRIGAN will lead the Big V into battle against Bendigo FNL in July. The VAFA will send two teams
AFL Victoria Country continued their unbeaten run against the VAFA’s Premier B-Division 4 side in emphatic fashion, however the final margin of 80 points was only achieved through a 10 goal final term from the Country in their clash at St Albans Reserve in Geelong.
Despite the final quarter flurry, Country increased their lead at every change to post a commanding 19.21 (135) to 8.7 (55) victory.
The VAFA made a rally in the early stages of the third term to reduce the deficit to three goals, but a couple of late goals before the end of the quarter meant the Country had a five goal buffer over the VAFA at the final change.
With early goals to the Country in the last term, the game was beyond the reach for Brett Voss’ men and as the skies worsened over head, so too did the final margin.
Yarra Valley Mountain DFL sharpshooter Michael Fowkes bagged five goals in the win and was well supported by Leigh Pholke with four.
Mitch Bosward was named best afield for the Country side with his pressure around the packs inspiring. For the VAFA, Cam Livori (PEGS) was awarded the best player medal whilst Steven Puhar (Williamstown CYMS) was presented with the Spirit of the Big V for his four quarter display.
