The VAFA are delighted to announce that Brian Goodman will take up the new role of General Manager of Football and Umpiring. The departure of Tim Noonan has allowed the VAFA to re-organise its staffing structure leading to a more efficient office configuration.
VAFA CEO Michael Sholly said, “This change in structure of the staff will allow us to provide a better service to our members and in turn allow our more senior staff members to concentrate on areas that will further benefit the Association.”
Mr Sholly added: “Brian has been involved in Amateur football for over 40 years and his extensive knowledge of the competition and the football landscape made him the ideal person to take up this new position.”
Brian has been the General Manager of Umpiring at the VAFA for the past nine years. Prior to that Brian was a player and umpire in the Association. In 2011 he was inducted as a Big V Club Legend for his services to representative umpiring. Brian has been involved at club level as chairman of selectors of De La Salle, Collegians and St Kevin’s OB.
Brian said of the appointment: “I am genuinely excited about this new position and a big part of this will be the opportunity to work more closely with our clubs. Tim Noonan did an outstanding job looking after the football operations of the VAFA and whilst this position will be different, with extra staff on board, we can now concentrate on doing more for our clubs and strengthening relationships with all of our stakeholders. I feel re-energised by this and, whilst it is a fresh challenge, it importantly has the full backing of the staff and the Board.”
The amalgamation of Football and Umpiring under one department will allow the VAFA to appoint two new full time staff members in the roles of Football and Umpire Administration Officers. The VAFA will advertise these positions in the coming weeks and is also delighted to be able to provide two new jobs in sports administration.
The position of General Manager of Football and Umpiring will assume a more managerial role with the new staff members to complete more of the administrative tasks that were previously undertaken by both Brian and Tim in their roles.
On behalf of the Board, staff and the clubs, we welcome Brian into this new role and are delighted that he has accepted the position. Brian officially commences in his role on Monday, February 10.
