2024 – A Golden Vintage for Old Scotch (Part 2: The Cardinals)
Old Scotch fans will fondly remember 2024 as they experienced the view from the top of the mountain in both the Premier Men’s and Premier Women’s competitions for the first
The Premier C 2014 season is set to be an intriguing one as up to five clubs have serious claims to the premiership. If 2013 was any indication then this will be a very competitive section. Last year’s finalists and the three new clubs to the section, Parkdale Vultures from Premier B and Hampton Rovers and Ormond from Division 1 will all be keen to assert control on the section. Add top that an air of expectation surrounding PEGS and the continued improvement of Peninsula and Oakleigh then this should be a fantastic season.
Opening day provides the first litmus test of the section with the promoted Hampton Rovers to host the relegated Parkdale Vultures. Rovers didn’t win a game in this section in 2012, the same year the Vultures won this title.
Another test will be when the promoted Ormond take on Marcellin at the EE Gunn. Marcellin lost a pre-lim last year and Ormond are stepping up a grade it promises to reveal just how competitive this section will be. Of interest here is the fact that this will be first clash at senior level for these two clubs since 1998 when both clubs were in the old B Grade.
Monash Blues start their 2014 year at home hosting Old Camberwell at the Uni with the Blues hoping to continue their strong showing of 2014 and the Wellers keen to get early wins on the board to avoid the nervous end to the campaign they had in 2013.
PEGS and Oakleigh will meet at PEGS playing fields and Peninsula will host Banyule at the College.
In Round 2 all the away teams from Round 1 will get the chance to host their first lunches of the year at home. The round has Banyule hosting Ormond at the Bear Cave, Marcellin will be paid a visit by Hampton Rovers, Oakleigh will meet Peninsula at Scammell, Old Camberwell will host PEGS at Gordon Barnard and Parkdale Vultures and Monash Blues will clash at Gerry Green.
The Easter weekend gives everyone an early breather before the ANZAC weekend on 26th April. This will see the Division 1 Grand Final re-match played at Boss James Ormond will strive to exact some revenge on the Rovers in Round 3.
Monash Blues will be paid a visit by Banyule and Oakleigh will visit Old Camberwell. Parkdale Vultures will host Marcellin and Peninsula will meet PEGS at Peninsula College.
There will be byes after Round 8 (for Queen’s Birthday), and after Round 12 (for the mid-season break).
