The St Bernard’s Football Club have ask Chris Tankard to step down from his role as senior coach. See the statement from the club below:
Effective Tuesday this week the Football Club Committee accepted the recommendation of the football sub-committee, and asked senior coach Chris Tankard to step down from his role, which Chris has done.
The Football Club Committee made this difficult decision after careful consideration of a range of issues, particularly the view that we wanted our team coached in a different style, with more effective communication and an approach that would maximise the senior team’s performance for the remainder of this season.
We would like to thank Chris for all his hard work in the last three and a half years, which included our return to Premier Section in 2012, and wish him all the very best in the future.
Assistant Coach Nick Mitchell a former AFL player, St Bernards 2002 A grade premiership captain and former coach of Old Geelong, has accepted the role as caretaker coach for the remaining seven games of the year.
We look forward to Nick and his team of assistant coaches working closely with the playing the group to do their very best, and as always, proudly represent the St Bernard’s Football Club.
This brings the two number of mid season coaching changes in the VAFA to three in 2013. Two of these changes have been in Premier Section, with St Bernard’s – currently in 8th spot – joining 9th placed University Blues in a coaching change mid year.
