2025 Premier Thirds Men’s Fixture
The Premier Thirds competition delivered arguably the biggest upset of the entire VAFA season, with St Kevin’s claiming the flag in a 5-point thriller over Old Xaverians, who had finished
In the round 1 edition of the Amateur Footballer we printed the list of all the premierships won by the current clubs in the VAFA. There were two tables, one showing the number of senior premierships and one showing the total number of premierships claimed by each club.
Given that it is round 6, to go the early crow on the use of the old football cliché every team in every section is still mathematically possible of winning the flag this year. With this in mind we have added some extra data to those tables from round 1 and have now worked out each club’s premiership strike rate.
To do this we have taken the number of premierships won divided by the number of completed seasons your club has fielded a side in the VAFA. Whilst all clubs rightfully celebrate the number of years since their inception, if we remove the war years from some clubs then we get a more accurate representation of the strike rate. The table below shows your club’s premiership strike rate both for senior and all combined premiership success.
The club with the best senior Premiership strike rate is South Melbourne Districts who have won a flag every 4.3 years. They are closely followed by Oakleigh who have managed a senior flag every 4.4 years they have played in the competition.
For total premierships, the best strike belongs to Old Xaverians who collect a flag from VAFA HQ every 1.4 years. De La Salle and Ormond share second place, both winning a premiership of some kind every 1.7 years.
Albert Park have the worst premiership strike rate with a flag won at the club every 19.7 years on average for their time spent in their various incarnations in the VAFA.
