TWO DAYS, FOUR GAMES, ITS GRAND FINAL WEEKEND

After 21 weeks of football the team that we will remember fondest from 2012 will be the team holding the cup this weekend, after all this is what we play for.
The unfortunate thing about a grand final is that only the winners are truly remembered as they take with them forever the title of premiership team. 
In the VAFA, the losing grand finalist does get the small consolation that they will be playing in the higher section the following year but it doesn’t make the celebrations and noise coming out of the rooms next door any easier to swallow. 
This weekend Sportscover Arena hosts both the Premier and Premier B Grand Finals whilst Trveor Barker Oval in Sandringham hosts the Premier C and Division 3 Grand Finals on Saturday and Sunday respectfully. 
On Sunday it’s the big one, Collegians looking to go back-to-back for the first time since 1992-93, have been the stand out team for the past two seasons. 
Old Xaverians are September specialists as evidenced by their complete turnaround in the final quarter of the Preliminary Final against De La Salle. 
Xavs kicked 8 goals to 1 in the final term to turn a 26 point three quarter time deficit into a 14 point win to make their 14th Grand Final in 18 years. 
Old Xavs will take a lot of confidence from that final quarter effort as they had struggled in the weeks prior losing their three games prior to the memorable comeback win. 
Two of those three losses came against Collegians, by 10 points in round 18 and the next week by 38 points in the second semi final. 
Those victories Collegians looked to have the Xavs measure but as De La Salle found out, it can often take only a quarter of football from the men in red and black to change the game. 
The contest is a repeat of the 2010 Grand Final which Old Xaverians won by 20 points. Collegians go in as favourites but given the blistering form of Xavs in the final quarter last week, this game is certainly not a foregone conclusion. 
The action for the main game starts at 2.30pm after the conclusion of the Premier Reserves and Thirds Grand Final.
There will also be an animal farm, face painting and a jumping castle with a golf pro and peewee tennis for entertainment. from 11am so bring the whole family along to Sportscover Arena on Sunday for what promises to be a wonderful day. 
On Saturday at Sportscover the Premier B Grand Finals matches up the dominant University Blacks who have only dropped the two games all year, one of which was by 2 points to their Grand Final opponent Beaumaris who last week became the first district club since Ormond in 1996 to win through to play in Premier football next year. 
The Sharks are in their 50th year as a club and will be keen to keep the party going by rolling the Blacks on Saturday. 
The Black’s haven’t won a flag since 2005 and will be keen to enter Premier next season with a Premiership to show for it. 
As Beaumaris defeated the Blacks at University Oval so to did the Blacks defeat Beaumaris at Banksia Reserve later in the season. 
University blacks have been consistent all year and they also have this year’s Moore Medalist (Premier B Competition Best and Fairest) Charlie Richardson in their side. 
Beaumaris have got to the Grand Final the hard way and they would be keen not to rest on their laurels of making through to the Grand Final and in to Premier for the first time in their history. 
It makes for an intriguing contest and the action starts at 2.30pm following the Premier B Thirds and Premier B Reserves Grand Finals. 
The Premier C Grand Final on Saturday sees Parkdale Vultures and Fitzroy competing for bragging rights as both teams will enter Premier B for the first times in their history. 
Fitzroy have three teams playing on Sunday and alll Old Fitzroy supporters are encourages to get to Trevor Barker Oval to support the Roys in their pursuit of three premierships. 
Parkdale Vultures stormed to the top of the ladder in the back half of the season to assume premiership favouritism and after their big win against Fitzroy in the second semi will be well rested to get one more effort from the boys on Saturday.
At Trevor Barker Oval on Sunday the Division 3 sides Yarra Valley and Ivanhoe Amateurs will battle for honours. 
Both sides have played two finals to get here due to the final five, although Ivanhoe start the game with an edge given they defeated Yarra Valley in the second semi two weeks ago and have had a week to rest sore bodies. 
The Bushrangers have had their shock and will be ready to reverse the result of a fortnight ago. 
All senior senior Grand Finals start at 2.30pm and tickets can be purchased at the gate and don’t forget to pick up your special souvenir edition of the Grand Final Record for $7.
