Today however, while there were certainly a few head scratchers, things went pretty much according to the script. Like at Toorak Park, where Old Xaverians did away with a pesky De La side who were right in the money up until half time. Likewise at the Hary Trott, where Old Ivanhoe looked the goods early on in proceedings until the Lions stormed home in the final term to hopefully get their season back on track. And St Bede’s/Mentone did it on their ear against an undermanned Old Brighton side. The real talking point was out at Bulleen, where the unfancied Old Trinity team hung on to record a stirring 20 point win over University Blues. Andrew Hore Lacey in his first game in two months kicked four key goals for the Ts.
Probably the biggest story in amateur footy today wasn’t in A Section. The seemingly unbeatable Old Essendon were rolled by Old Haileybury by a solitary point to really spice things up in B Section. Other winners were Old Camberwell over St Bernards, Marcellin over Caulfield Grammarians, Old Carey over SKOBS and Beaumaris, who upset Old Melburnians.
