The Holmesglen Under 19 Premier Men’s competition provided some thrilling footy in 2024, with so much exciting young talent on display. Old Brighton (15-3) claimed the minor premiership by two
Members of the Old Geelong Football and Netball Club community have been shocked and saddened to hear of the accidental death of James Head, a current player at Old Geelong.
James was a great friend of Old Geelong before he became a playing member in 2007. An old boy of Geelong Grammar, he had maintained great friendships with a large group of current players, so when his travels and injuries subsided, it made sense for him to play at Como Park.
James shouldered the ruck almost singlehandedly in 2007, barely resting in any game until his back gave way in the last weeks of the year. So good were his efforts that he was the highest vote winner for Old Geelong in the VAFA vote count last year.
James will be remembered for his loping running, his up to 20 or more marks in every game and his less than perfect kicking; however, it will be his affable nature that will ensure that he is remembered fondly for a very long time. James was a genuinely pleasant and endearing person.
He was engaging with his constant enjoyment of, seemingly, everyone and everything. He loved having a good time with family and friends.
Passionate towards his work at Melbourne Grammar’s Todd Road facilitity, displayed by his being keen often to discuss things such as the value of different strains of winter and summer grasses, James brought a similar level of passion to his other loves: football and people.
It is true to say that Old Geelong has lost a great ruckman, but it is far more accurate to say that we have all lost a great person. He will be missed.
