A Centenary celebration for the Big V
2025 will be a season of celebration as the VAFA recognises the 100th anniversary of the first Big V match, which took place against the South Australian Amateur Football League
De La Salle Old Collegians Association Football Club
Anthony Molan’s brother, sisters, and nephew, attended the Cup over the weekend at Waverley Oval.
The cup, was named in honour of their brother Anthony, who passed away in 2003, after collapsing on the field, during a match against St Kevin’s Old Boy’s Football Club. Twenty years later, some of the same players that took the field that day, are still playing, while those who no longer play, still come to watch on the sidelines.
Anthony was a fifth year medical student and player for De La Salle at the time of his passing, and a great lover of football.
His parents could not be at the game over the weekend, but his brother Tom, also a DLSOCAFC player, sisters Tessa Molan and Jo Gasser, as well as nephew Jack Gasser, still appreciate the support they receive from DLSOCAFC to this day.
They acknowledged the support Anthony’s parents Fran and Chris, received from the De La Community, and the St Kevin’s community, at the time of Anthony’s passing. And they are grateful that Anthony’s many friends at the club, still come along to honour him.
“It’s fantastic that 20 years later, some of the people he played with that day, are still playing. It’s a great club and it’s great that we can come back and catch up, especially after the last 2 years” said Anthony’s brother Tom Molan.
De La Salle thanks all the players and supporters, from both clubs, that came to honour Anthony over the weekend.
Final Scores
De La Salle 3.3, 7.7, 8.8, 8.12 (60)
