The VAFA congratulates Brunswick NOBSPC young gun, Daniel Mott, after he was named the Round 15 Men’s Rising Star following his best-on-ground performance against Ormond over the weekend.
What the club said:
“Dan is a product of the Brunswick Junior Football Club and is one of three juniors that have transitioned to the senior club this year. Dan has played all his juniors at Brunswick JFC, winning League and Club Best & Fairest awards.
He made his senior debut this year in round two at the tender age of 15. After having a birthday, the 16 year old is a great size and more than holds his own against men. He is a real smooth mover and seems to have a lot of time with ball in hand.
At the moment he is setting up the play off half back but we see him developing into a Scott Pendlebury type midfielder with great awareness and an ability to push forward and kick goals. He always seems to make good decisions and helps bring his team mates into the game. He is calm in traffic, willing to take the tackle to draw a player and release a runner. He has excellent skills on both sides of his body and decision making well beyond his years.
Dan works hard to be good both offensively and defensively, already being one of the best tacklers at the club. As part of the junior program it was great to see him put his hand up to play senior football even though he was still eligible to play Colts. His buy in for the club and what we stand for has been evident from day one and he has bought a youthful cheekiness to Brunswick NOBSPC that makes the club feel like a better place.
Dan is a hard worker and great trainer, and at 16 has the confidence to even take a few drills that he has learnt playing representative football. He is always willing to listen and learn when given direction by coaches and team mates alike, and also willing to help around the club whenever he can.
As a junior, Dan is also a great role model to the current colts boys who we hope next year will hang around and form the next generation of Brunswick North Old Boys. Dan and his brother William were inaugural members of our first Brunswick Junior Football team and has stayed loyal to the club throughout.
We know we won’t have him for long as he transitions to the Calder Cannons and hopefully beyond, but we at the Brunswick Football Club love having him around.”
