At the recent Presentation Night, current Club Secretary Daniel Buckley was inducted into Life Membership of the Power House Football Club.
Bucks, who is currently in his 9th term as Club Secretary, has been at the club since 2011 and is also a current active player having 138 games under his belt.
As well as his massive secretary duties and responsibilities, he is responsible for many projects in and around the club since 2011 and can always be counted on to take on any task to help the club, the coaches, the players and the past players and sponsors and supporters.
He lives the club motto, “Service without recognition”.
Daniel was inducted by President Nic Pavlou and his induction speech is below:-
It is with absolute delight and pleasure to induct one of my best mates, Daniel Buckley into Life Membership of the Power House Football Club.
Life Membership of our club is a recognition truly earned and a great honour. In the clubs 75 years, Daniel becomes only the 46th Life Member. That’s one every about 2 years.
Life Membership qualification is based on commitment to the club, balanced with Character, Integrity and Worthiness of the Candidate as determined by the Life Member committee. This is certainly an exclusive group with some of the greats of our club recognised.
Daniel came to the club in 2011 as a not so shy youngster looking for a game of football and a place to call home. In the past 12 seasons, there isn’t much that Bucks hasn’t done.
He is in his 9th year as Club Secretary, this is a club record and he doesn’t look like stopping just yet. (sorry Amie) For those outside the committee, there is not too much that goes on at the club that doesn’t go through Bucks.
It’s an incredibly busy, complex and tough role which Bucks has managed to do extremely well. This includes hundreds of committee meetings, general meetings, texts, phone calls, messages and Facebook and Instagram and the thousands of emails during the year. And nowadays, just to give us more to do, who the hell created WhatsApp!
He has an incredible passion for our club and is constantly working on making the club and our people better each year.
His football career of 138 games (and still going) should not be ignored. Top goalkicker awards are some highlights but there’s not too many players who can say they kicked a goal after the siren (from the boundary) to win the game. So, he has lived every footy player’s dream!
He has managed to achieve all of this remarkable stuff at the club while at the same time managing to build a great supportive family and marrying his much better half Amie on 4 May 2018 and raising their two great children Ollie and Harrison who have grown up not knowing anything other than the Power House FC. The clubrooms are like their own little playground!
His parents Peter and Yvonne, who are also here tonight, have always been around the club at games and functions, always supporting Bucks.
Thank you all but especially thank you Amie for allowing us to share Bucks with you guys and apologies for the late-night phone calls and the late night “meetings” at the clubrooms sometimes until the early hours of the morning.
The last few years under COVID have been particularly challenging especially for sports club executives to keep a club afloat, keep people engaged and interested, keep ourselves financial and ensure we follow the many rapidly changing rules and regulations in trying to get players on the park, while protecting the health and wellbeing of our people. It’s been a hard slog, but I’m delighted that Bucks has been working shoulder to shoulder always with the clubs best interests at heart.
New electronic scoreboard, new bar and clubroom renovations, projector and new big screen in the rooms, our infamous and spectacular clash jumper, (the best in the league), Bucks has been involved in leading many of these great initiatives during his tenure.
He has an incredibly keen interest in the club’s history, the link with Lord Somers Camp and continuously works on trying to bring our club closer to our deep and proud heritage.
He famously won the prestigious Don McDonald Best Clubman Award in 2015 and managed to drop and break his trophy the same night. So tonight, Bucks, please make sure you get this award home in one piece!
I have been waiting a long time to say this.
Welcome Bucks, finally, into Life Membership of the Power House Football Club.
