Mazenod Football Club started life in the VAFA with a bang, the Nodders won senior premierships in four of their first five years in the competition. In fact, had they not lost the 1990 Division 2 preliminary final, Mazenod could very well have won premierships in their first five years. Of their five flags at senior level, all have been won in a different section, leaving holes in their trophy cabinet for a premiership in the VAFA’s top and bottom sections. With Mazenod back in Premier C after a brief hiatus in Premier B, they will be hoping a premiership in the top section is closer than one in the bottom. Mazenod has played in A Section twice for only two years, the club was relegated they year after promotion to A Section on both occasions. Recently, the club bounced back from relegation with a flag in Premier C in 2016. In 2017, they started a women’s team from scratch and won the first-ever Development Division 3 premiership before entering a reserves and seniors in Premier B Blue the following year. Coach Paul Deegan led the women as well as the U19 (4) men’s to flags in the same year in 2017, earning him U19 Coach of the Year honours.
