Albert Park Falcons originally commenced in the VAFA as the ANZ Bank Football Club in 1954, although an ANZ club had existed since the 1920s. The club changed its name in 1996 to ANZ Albert Park, and again in 1999, settling on Albert Park. Unfortunately by the time ANZ joined the VAFA the demographics had started to change and the Bank or institution clubs were struggling to hold onto the talent. The Falcons are yet to win a senior VAFA premiership, they have achieved promotion as losing grand finalists on three occasions, in 1958 (E Section), 1991 and 1999 (both F Section). That means they hold the record for longest drought in Amateur football for a senior flag. From of their 64 completed seasons in the VAFA, Albert Park have netted just three reserves premierships. As the demographics change again around the Albert Park area, hopefully it won’t be long before the Falcons can snare that elusive flag.
